In electronics production the shoe decides whether an assembly survives the walk from store to line. The SLIDE BLACK DISC LOW drains the wearer's charge in a controlled way and keeps the resistance of the person, shoe and floor chain below 100 MOhm under DIN EN 61340-5-1. The fibreglass cap meets the basic test of EN ISO 20345 at 200 joules impact energy and 15 kN compression, and the shoe manages entirely without metal.

What sets this model apart

  • The shoe drains the wearer's electrostatic charge through footbed and sole into the floor. The governing standard is DIN EN 61340-5-1 for the ESD protected area. It assesses the chain of person, shoe and floor, and the resistance of that chain stays below 100 MOhm. Antistatic construction to EN ISO 20345 alone does not achieve this, it only covers the wide band from 10 to the power of 5 up to 10 to the power of 9 ohms and is no proof of ESD suitability.
  • The class code S1PS reads awkwardly but says something clear. S1 covers a closed heel area, antistatic construction and an energy absorbing heel region, and the 2022 edition adds fuel oil resistance of the sole. The appended PS means a penetration resistant insert of non metallic material, tested with the small nail of 3.0 mm diameter. That test is tougher than the older 4.5 mm variant. The toe cap meets the basic requirement of EN ISO 20345 and withstands 200 joules of impact energy and 15 kN of compression.
  • The entire protection package is metal free, a fibreglass cap instead of steel and FAP®lite instead of a steel midsole. That saves weight, avoids cold bridges in winter and stops the constant triggering at plants with metal detector gates. The shoe is also made vegan.
  • The MOTION PWR sole combines a PWR.FOAM® midsole, which PUMA took over from high performance running, with a rubber outsole in several tread zones. The outsole carries the HRO marking and therefore withstands contact heat of 300 °C for 60 seconds under EN ISO 20345. Slip resistance SR and fuel oil resistance FO come on top.
  • The upper is made of SAFETY KNIT® with FUSETEC® elements. The knit breathes, the fused elements carry the forces from the lacing into the sole and hold the foot in place laterally.
  • The BreathActive functional lining and the evercushion® MMT footbed keep the foot climate dry and cushion the heel. The softly padded construction pays off on long shifts where the shoe should not draw attention.

Applications

Placement, assembly and test stations in electronics production, service work on sensitive assemblies, order picking and goods receipt inside the EPA, workshop and maintenance. Thanks to the HRO outsole the shoe also fits where hot chips or warm surfaces reach the floor. For permanently wet floors specify a class S2 or S3 model with a water repellent upper instead.
