An S3 shoe does not have to be heavy. The SL 245 XP ESD reaches class S3S SR to EN ISO 20345:2022 with an air-permeable SportLine fabric instead of heavy leather, a non-metallic XP penetration barrier and a steel toe cap rated for 200 joules of impact and 15 kN of compression. An additional scuff cap protects the toe area where trade work wears a shoe out first.
What sets this model apart
- Charge dissipation first. ATLAS labels the shoe explicitly as an ESD version to DIN EN 61340-5-1 and guarantees a person-shoe-floor resistance below 100 megohms. The footwear standard itself only defines the antistatic band from 100 kilohms to 1000 megohms, so the ESD proof goes beyond it. In practice the wearer charge drains away in a controlled manner on the walk from the bench to the machine instead of building up on the body and destroying a component.
- S3S SR in plain words. In the 2022 edition S3 covers everything from S2, so water penetration and water absorption are tested as well, plus a penetration-resistant insert and a cleated outsole. The trailing letter S means that insert is non-metallic and was tested with the thin 3.0 mm nail, the harder variant. SR adds proven slip resistance on tile with glycerine.
- Scuff cap against knocks. Above the toe cap sits an additional scuff cap that protects the front of the upper against abrasion. That is exactly where a shoe wears through first when kneeling or knocking against edges.
- Penetration protection without metal. XP technology replaces the steel midsole with a high-tech textile containing aramid fibres. It stops nails, stays extremely light, lets the natural torsion of the foot work and forms no cold bridge.
- Steel toe cap with a 200 joule margin. The anatomically shaped steel cap protects the toe area against at least 200 joules of impact and at least 15 kN of compression. That equals roughly 20 kilograms dropped onto the forefoot from one metre.
- XR-MPU sole with MPU REBOUND SYSTEM. ATLAS uses the XR-MPU sole technology here and combines it with the MPU REBOUND SYSTEM for noticeably gentle, fatigue-free walking. Anyone standing on concrete for eight hours notices the difference in the evening.
- SportLine fabric and aktiv-X. The SportLine upper is a textile weave that is particularly air permeable and breathable. The aktiv-X functional lining regulates moisture actively, does not stain and is abrasion-resistant.
- Approved for orthopaedic insoles. ATLAS lists the model as suitable for insole supply to DGUV rule 112-191. Staff with a prescribed insole therefore need no special purchase, the marking inside the shoe is decisive.
