In cleanroom ante-rooms and hygienically sensitive production areas the upper material matters as much as the foot protection. The CL 490 is a white low shoe in class S2 with a CLEANLINE upper that inhibits bacteria and odour. The electrical resistance stays below 100 MOhm to DIN EN 61340-5-1 and the steel toe cap withstands 200 joules of impact and 15 kN of compression.
What the shoe delivers
- The charge leaves through the shoe, not through the component. Measured by the person shoe floor method of DIN EN 61340-5-1, the electrical resistance stays below 100 MOhm. A wearer who picks up a charge on the way to the machine passes it to the floor through the sole instead of discharging it into the assembly. The lower limit of 100 kOhm from DGUV rule 112-191 is maintained, so the limited protection against dangerous electric shock when working up to 230 V is not lost.
- Protection class S2 in plain words. S2 to EN ISO 20345 means a toe cap, a closed heel area that absorbs energy, an antistatic build and a water-repellent upper. Penetration resistance is not part of it, so an S3 model is the right choice for areas with nails or swarf. The SRC slip rating covers ceramic tile with detergent and steel with glycerol.
- An upper made for hygienically sensitive areas. The CLEANLINE material is water-repellent, bacteria-inhibiting, odour-inhibiting and still breathable. It is light and supple while remaining tear-resistant and durable. White stays visibly white, so soiling in a cleanroom environment is noticed at once instead of travelling along unseen.
- Steel cap with tested figures. The anatomically shaped steel cap protects the toe area against an impact of at least 200 joules and a compression load of at least 15 kN to EN ISO 20345.
- Cushioning built for an eight hour day. The MPU INNOFLEX System guides the forces along the INNOFLEX LINE from heel to toe. The CLOUDZONE in the heel absorbs the impact forces and the MPU tread areas return the energy to the movement. The MPU REBOUND SYSTEM of pressure-relieving insole and responsive MPU sole takes load off the back and joints during long periods of standing.
- Foot climate held near 32 degrees. The aktiv-X functional lining regulates moisture actively, dries quickly, does not stain and resists abrasion. Together with the breathable upper the clima-stream concept keeps the inside of the shoe close to the comfort temperature of 32 degrees Celsius.
- Width 10, the standard width. Every ATLAS safety shoe in width 10 is built on a broad, foot-friendly last. Anyone who needs more room across the ball of the foot gets the same model from the multi-width system in width 12 and, for some models, in special widths 13 and 14.

Areas of use
Cleanroom ante-rooms and hygienically sensitive indoor areas, electronics manufacturing and PCB assembly, EPA zones to DIN EN 61340-5-1, medical technology and precision assembly, laboratory and test areas. Without penetration resistance the shoe belongs on tidy floors and not on a construction site.
Standards and conformity
ATLAS lists the shoe as S2 with SRC slip resistance, the 2012 edition of the standard comes from the supplier data sheet. As personal protective equipment it falls under risk category 2 of PPE Regulation (EU) 2016/425. ESD suitability is not a requirement of the footwear standard but follows DIN EN 61340-5-1.
EN ISO 20345 requires an electrical resistance between 100 kOhm and 1000 MOhm for every safety shoe. ESD shoes narrow that window at the top to 100 MOhm and thereby protect the product during manufacturing. The shoe is also approved for orthopaedic insoles under DGUV rule 112-191, with the marking inside the shoe being decisive.
