In electronics manufacturing a shoe is rarely still and yet stands in one place for half the day. The CX 46 women ESD from the City Style series is a safety low shoe in class S1 to EN ISO 20345:2012, built on a women's last for dry indoor areas. Its steel toe cap is tested to 200 joules of impact energy and 15 kN of compression, while the textile upper keeps it lighter than a comparable leather model.
Why this model
- Charge dissipation as the first argument. The shoe is ESD compliant and keeps the resistance measured by the person-shoe-floor method of DIN EN 61340-5-1 below 100 MOhm. Static charge on the wearer drains through the sole in a controlled way instead of building up on the body. Inside an EPA that is what stops a component failing because somebody walked from the bench to the machine.
- S1 in plain words. Closed heel area, antistatic construction and a heel region that absorbs impact energy, plus a fuel-resistant outsole. For dry indoor areas such as production, test bays and stores this is the right class under EN ISO 20345:2012.
- Steel toe cap with tested figures. The anatomically shaped toe cap withstands at least 200 joules of impact energy and at least 15 kN of compression to EN ISO 20345:2012. That is a 20 kilogram part dropping onto the forefoot from roughly one metre.
- SportLine fabric instead of leather. The textile upper is highly air-permeable and breathable, and its hydrophobic finish makes it water-repellent, quick-drying and hard-wearing. It keeps the shoe lighter than a leather model without giving up robustness.
- A women's last, not a shrunken men's shoe. The shoe is built on a dedicated women's last matched to a narrower heel, a different instep and softer bedding. That is the difference between a shoe worn for eight hours and one that stays in the locker after the break.
- MPU sole technology. The multifunctional polyurethane is light, responsive and absorbs impact forces instead of passing them on to the knee. The sole is rated in the highest slip resistance class SRC, tested on ceramic with detergent and on steel with glycerine.
Three further points only become obvious after a few shifts. The clima-stream concept holds the inside of the shoe close to the comfort temperature of 32 °C, the MPU REBOUND SYSTEM of pressure-relieving insole and MPU sole absorbs impact forces, and the aktiv-X functional lining regulates moisture without bleeding colour. For orthopaedic insoles the model is approved to DGUV rule 112-191.

Areas of use
Electronics manufacturing and PCB assembly, test and measurement benches, laboratory and cleanroom ante-areas, order picking and office workstations inside the EPA. As an S1 model without penetration protection the shoe belongs in dry, tidy areas. On building sites or wherever nails and swarf lie on the floor, an S1P or S3 model is the right choice.
