Leather is tough and heavy, textile is light and wears through. The Atlas XT series breaks that rule with GORE-TEX EXTRAGUARD, an abrasion resistant upper construction that the manufacturer rates 40 percent lighter than leather and that absorbs almost no moisture from outside even after months of wet duty. The XT 510 GTX combines it with safety class S3, an alu-tec aluminium cap and a resistance below 100 MOhm to DIN EN 61340-5-1.
What the shoe delivers
- S3 in plain words. Everything in S2, meaning closed heel area, antistatic properties, heel energy absorption, the 200 joule toe cap and a water tested upper, plus a penetration barrier against nails and swarf and a cleated outsole. This is the class for site work, yards and everything beyond a clean shop floor.
- Charge dissipation to DIN EN 61340-5-1. The shoe ties the wearer into the personnel grounding of the EPA. Atlas guarantees a resistance of less than 100 MOhm measured by the person shoe floor method. The plain antistatic requirement of EN ISO 20345 allows anything between 0.1 MOhm and 1000 MOhm. Component protection depends on the tighter figure, because only that prevents a discharge when someone picks up an assembly.
- alu-tec aluminium toe cap. The anatomically shaped cap meets 200 joules of impact and 15 kN of compression to EN ISO 20345 while weighing markedly less than steel. That pays off with every step and keeps the centre of gravity further back. Aluminium behaves differently from steel thermally and does not form a noticeable cold bridge into the shoe.
- XR-MPU sole technology. Atlas does not use the standard sole here but the XR-MPU technology together with the MPU REBOUND SYSTEM. The pressure relieving insole and the responsive MPU cushioning absorb heel strike energy and feed it back into the roll of the foot instead of passing it into knees and back.
- GORE-TEX EXTRAGUARD upper. The abrasion resistant upper construction is 40 percent lighter than leather according to the manufacturer and absorbs almost no moisture from the outside even under months of continuous wet duty. The GORE-TEX membrane keeps water out and lets perspiration escape, and the upper uses a lightweight construction.
- Width 10 and orthopaedic insoles. Every Atlas safety shoe in standard width 10 is built on a broad, foot friendly last, this is not a narrow standard width. The shoe is approved for orthopaedic insoles under DGUV rule 112-191, the marking inside the shoe is what counts.

Areas of use
Outdoor maintenance and plant service, yard work and loading, site work and assembly, plus EPA zones in production. The GORE-TEX membrane makes the shoe usable through long wet shifts. For indoor work on dry floors a lighter S1 or S2 model is the more economical choice.
Standards and conformity
- EN ISO 20345:2012, safety class S3, slip resistance SRC. Aluminium toe cap (alu-tec), tested to 200 joules of impact and 15 kN of compression.
- DIN EN 61340-5-1, ESD compliant. Resistance measured by the person shoe floor method is less than 100 MOhm. The antistatic requirement of EN ISO 20345 is wider, between 0.1 MOhm and 1000 MOhm.
- Metal free penetration barrier, Atlas XP technology.
- PPE Regulation (EU) 2016/425, risk category 2.
- DGUV rule 112-191, suitable for orthopaedic insoles. The marking inside the shoe is what counts.
