ERSA dry cleaner made of metal wool, supplied complete with a holder - consisting of a metal-wool dry sponge (0008M) and a holder (0A08M).
Unlike a viscose sponge, which is moistened before use, the dry sponge works without water. Modern soldering tips are built from several layers of metal. Cleaning on a damp sponge can cause a thermal shock that makes these layers expand at different rates and form microcracks on the surface. This increases wear, especially with lead-free solder, which further attacks the damaged areas. Because the dry sponge produces no thermal shock, it is the gentler solution.
The holder fits the ERSA storage stands 0A39 and 0A41 to 0A45 as well as 0A48.
