Buying workwear for several shifts is rarely a decision about one garment. It is about an appearance that has to hold for years, about repeat orders and about a colour that still matches the first delivery after two years of laundering. Cornflower blue is the classic works colour for that, light enough to look approachable and dark enough not to record every hand movement.

Technically the trousers weigh 170 g/m². The mix of 48 % cotton, 48 % polyester and 4 % conductive yarn gives a cloth that can be worn all day and still dissipates charge. STFI measured the surface resistance at 10⁵ to 10⁷ ohms.

On the shop floor the shade mostly means fewer conversations about stains. Cornflower blue takes on light dust and dark smears alike without putting either on display, so a shift keeps a consistent appearance from morning to handover.

Your benefits

  • Mid-tone, less laundry pressure: Cornflower blue sits between the extremes. Light dust and metal swarf show less than on black, grease and flux less than on white. That stretches the interval between two laundry runs.
  • Pairs with light-coloured tops: With white or grey ESD shirts and coats the result reads as a tidy uniform. Teams can be distinguished by the top without buying a separate trouser colour per department.
  • 170 g/m² cotton blend fabric: The weight stays below that of a heavy drill cloth. Anyone moving between placement machine and test bench for a full shift notices the difference by the evening.
  • Side elastic instead of a belt: The band absorbs movement and needs no belt. That also removes the buckle that otherwise scrapes across the edge of a test bench or a painted enclosure.
  • Pockets that add no bulk: Badge, gloves and a short grounding cord all fit. Because the pockets sit in the side seam the silhouette stays flat and does not catch on mobile pedestals.
  • Tested to DIN EN 61340-5-1:2016: STFI carried out the test for dissipation and surface resistance. The measured value is documented rather than derived from a calculation on the material sheet.
  • Made for the laundry circuit: The trousers are suitable for industrial laundering. The polyester share holds the shape and the woven-in conductive yarn stays conductive over many cycles.

Material and fabric

The basis is a cloth of 48 % cotton, 48 % polyester and 4 % conductive yarn with a fabric weight of 170 g/m². The cotton is spun as compact yarn, where protruding fibre ends are bound in before twisting. The fabric therefore sheds less lint, which counts at workplaces with open assemblies and optics.

The blend is deliberately kept at equal shares. Cotton supplies moisture uptake and wearing comfort, polyester the dimensional stability for waistband, seams and leg length. Compact cotton is also less prone to static charging and to odour build-up than purely synthetic fabrics.

  • 48 % cotton, 48 % polyester, 4 % conductive yarn
  • Fabric weight 170 g/m²
  • Low-lint compact yarn
  • Conductive yarn distributed across the whole cloth

Construction in detail

The waistband is made for comfort and backed with elastic on both sides. Switching between standing at the machine and sitting at the test bench, it gives and draws back again. The front fastening is a slit fly zip that sits under the placket and forms no hard edge against the body.

Two slash pockets are set into the sides and stay flat in profile. The ESD logo is worked in, so during a walkthrough or a customer audit it is clear without asking that the legwear belongs to the dissipation concept and was not brought in privately.

  • Comfort waistband with side elastic
  • Slit fly zip at the front
  • Two slash pockets in the side seam
  • Integrated ESD logo

Fit and size range

The trousers run in continental dress sizes from 34 to 54, specifically 34, 36, 38, 40, 42, 44, 46, 48, 50, 52 and 54. Sizes outside this band are arranged on request, so an issue covering every body shape stays plannable. A sample garment beforehand helps to fix the quantities per size with confidence.

The size chart is available as a PDF in the Downloads tab of this product page. It assigns measurements to each dress size, so the order quantity per size can be estimated in advance. In practice a short fitting session for borderline cases then replaces a full round for the whole department.

Lasting dissipation and wash resistance

The 4 % conductive yarn is part of the weave and not a coating that wears off. High-grade silver yarn is worked in using a dedicated spinning and twisting process. In practice that means conductivity is retained after repeated washing and wearing. That holds for every wash cycle a garment sees in industrial laundering.

The surface resistance of 10⁵ to 10⁷ ohms measured by STFI lies in the dissipative range. Charge is led away under control before it reaches the voltage at which sensitive semiconductor structures can be damaged. Together with dissipative flooring, footwear and work surfaces this closes the chain.

Cornflower blue as a works colour

Cornflower blue is the house colour in many production plants, and for good reason. The shade reads as businesslike without being severe, and it stays recognisable across repeat orders. On the shop floor it offers the most workable compromise on soiling. Where black shows every light-coloured dust and white shows every dark mark, cornflower blue stays unobtrusive in both directions.

  • Placement, final assembly and packing of electronic assemblies
  • Test floors and calibration rooms with measuring equipment
  • Goods-in and stores for electronic components
  • Training areas and induction of new staff

Care and service life

The trousers are designed for commercial processing. The polyester share keeps waistband, seams and leg length in shape over many runs, and the woven-in conductive yarn retains its conductivity across numerous wash and wear cycles. The care label sewn into the garment applies for the processing itself.

Finishing and custom versions

The fabric can be printed up to 160 °C and is suitable for embroidery, a sample print beforehand is recommended. A cargo pocket with phone pocket, a double rule pocket and contrast versions are added on request, as are colours outside the catalogue and further special equipment. Ask us for a quotation.

Standards and testing

STFI tested dissipation and surface resistance to DIN EN 61340-5-1:2016 and measured 10⁵ to 10⁷ ohms at 23 °C (+/- 1) room temperature and 25 % (+/- 5) humidity. Beyond this test there is no certification against further ESD standards.
