In electronics manufacturing a shift between placement line, test bench and warehouse easily covers several kilometres, and every one of those steps charges the wearer. The ICONIC SUEDE NAVY LOW is built as low-cut safety shoe in class S1PL: a fibreglass toe cap for the 200 joules of impact energy required by EN ISO 20345, flexible FAP® penetration protection and an ESD compliant construction that keeps passing the charge into the dissipative floor instead of letting it grow until a hand reaches the assembly.
What this model delivers
- The charge goes into the floor, not into the assembly. The shoe is built to be ESD compliant and is therefore one building block of a workplace to DIN EN 61340-5-1. That standard requires the person-shoe-floor system to stay below 100 megohms. EN ISO 20345 only covers the wide antistatic range from 100 kilohms to 1000 megohms and is not an ESD verification on its own. The difference decides whether a discharge happens when a hand reaches for the board. The damage rarely shows at once, it shows as an early field failure.
- S1PL in plain words. Closed heel area, antistatic construction, 20 joules of energy absorption in the heel, a fuel-oil resistant outsole and penetration resistance. The L stands for the non-metallic insert, which EN ISO 20345:2022 tests with a 4.5 mm nail at 1100 newtons. S1PL does not require a water-repellent upper, which keeps the shoe light and breathable.
- Fibreglass toe cap and flexible FAP® penetration protection. The toe cap withstands the 200 joules of impact energy and 15 kN of compression required by EN ISO 20345, weighs less than steel and conducts no cold into the shoe. Together with the non-metallic FAP® insert the shoe is completely metal-free, which counts at metal detectors and near sensitive measuring equipment.
- A sole for hard floors and hot chips. The HERITAGE rubber outsole withstands contact heat up to 300 °C and resists fuel oil. The herringbone tread grips on smooth shop floors and the rotation point under the midfoot lets the foot turn with the shoe instead of building up friction inside it. Anyone moving between workstations all day feels that in the knees.
- Width 11 and a size chart you can order from. The shoe runs in width 11, the PUMA Safety standard width. The manufacturer maps a foot length to every size, size 43 corresponds to 27.0 to 27.5 cm and size 42 measures 26.3 to 26.9 cm. That lets you kit out a department without trying every wearer individually. The evercushion® RELIEF footbed supports the arch and relieves pressure, the BreathActive functional lining moves moisture outwards. The idCELL cushioning elements in the heel and forefoot absorb the impact when the foot touches down.
- Additional marking FO, HRO and SR. FO covers the fuel-oil resistant outsole, HRO the test against contact heat of 300 °C for 60 seconds, SR the slip resistance on a ceramic tile with glycerine. Three tests that matter exactly where oil, hot chips and damp shop floors meet.

Where it is used
Electronics manufacturing and placement, test and measurement benches, repair and rework, final assembly, goods-in, warehouse and order picking. Wherever EPA zones to DIN EN 61340-5-1 are declared, dissipative footwear belongs to the basic equipment. For wet areas a model with a water-repellent upper is the better choice, S1PL does not require one.
Standards and conformity
- EN ISO 20345:2022, safety footwear for professional use, protection class S1PL
- Protective toe cap tested at 200 joules impact energy and 15 kN compression
- Penetration-resistant FAP® insert, test force 1100 newtons
- Additional marking FO, HRO and SR
- ESD compliant construction for workplaces to DIN EN 61340-5-1. That standard applies a resistance below 100 megohms to the person-shoe-floor system. EN ISO 20345 itself only describes the antistatic range from 100 kilohms to 1000 megohms.
- Declared DGUV certified by the manufacturer
- PPE Regulation (EU) 2016/425, risk category II
- Brand PUMA Safety, manufactured by ISM Heinrich Krämer GmbH & Co. KG under licence
