ESD safety low shoe ICONIC STONE LOW S1PL, suede leather, grey - PUMA Safety 644410801
A shoe that looks like a sneaker and still fits the risk assessment lowers the resistance to wearing it. The ICONIC STONE LOW from the PUMA Safety HERITAGE line has a grey suede leather upper and a rubber outsole with a herringbone tread. The shoe drains the wearer's electrostatic charge through sole and floor. DIN EN 61340-5-1 requires the person, shoe and floor resistance in an EPA to stay below 100 MOhm. That is what this version is built for, and PUMA Safety lists it as an ESD shoe in its own data sheet. The antistatic base property under EN ISO 20345 allows anything from 0.1 MOhm to 1000 MOhm and is therefore no ESD proof on its own. What counts in the end is the installed system of person, shoe and floor.
What sets this model apart
- Safety class S1PL comes from the 2022 edition of EN ISO 20345 and covers a closed heel area, antistatic construction, an energy absorbing heel region and a non metallic penetration resistant insert tested with a 4.5 mm nail. A water resistant upper as in S3 is not part of it.
- Fibreglass toe cap to EN ISO 20345, tested at 200 joules impact energy and 15 kN compression. It is metal free, so it does not set off gate detectors and does not carry cold to the toes in winter.
- FAP penetration resistant insert in non metallic textile, tested at a test force of 1100 N with a 4.5 mm nail. Unlike a steel midsole it covers the sole area into the ball of the foot, stays flexible and saves weight.
- Outsole: HERITAGE rubber outsole, heat resistant to 300 degrees Celsius, herringbone tread with rotation point. Combined with the evercushion RELIEF footbed, which spreads pressure across the whole area.
- BreathActive functional lining and an upper in suede leather. The combination moves moisture outwards, which over a full shift is the difference between a dry foot and a clammy one.
- Closure: laced. Further features: metal free, idCELL cushioning membrane, ROTATION POINT. The manufacturer lists this model as DGUV certified.
- Additional markings stated by the manufacturer. FO, oil resistant outsole. HRO, outsole resistant to contact heat of 300 degrees Celsius for 60 seconds. SR, additional slip resistance test beyond the basic requirement of the 2022 edition.

Applications
Placement, assembly and rework in electronics production, test and measuring stations, goods receipt and order picking inside the EPA, service work on sensitive assemblies. The heat resistant outsole additionally covers warm floors, for example at soldering lines or on asphalt in summer. For wet areas or outdoor work in the rain, a class S2 or S3 model is the right choice.
