On small pads the deciding factor is not power but whether you can still see the joint and meter the solder. The 45 degree bevel on a 1.0 mm tip body gives an ellipse of roughly 1.4 mm by calculation, the smallest bevel in the TSS10 range, built in the 200 W class.

What the geometry does

• A 1.0 mm body keeps heat where it belongs and leaves the pads next to it alone.
• The bevelled face wets and carries a small bead of solder to the joint, which saves feeding wire in awkward positions.
• The 45 degree angle allows a flat approach so the joint stays visible while you work.
• 200 W version for fine heat demand, control is aimed at measured rather than maximum heat input.
• Tip and heater are one unit, on the Quick TS10 roughly 3 seconds to 300 °C are possible, reference is the 1.6 mm tip.
• Thermocouple inside the tip and an integrated calibration chip, so the station shows the right value again after a change.

Applications

Small pads, fine tracks, individual through hole leads, small connector contacts and tinning thin stranded wire in workshop, service, assembly and rework. As soon as larger masses such as cable lugs or ground planes are involved, the 2.0 and 3.0 mm bevels or the 300 W versions are the right choice.
