Anyone working in an EPA to DIN EN 61340-5-1 discharges through the sole of the shoe on the way to the machine. The ERGO-MED 1600 keeps that resistance below 100 MOhm using the person shoe floor method and protects the assembly, while the toe cap to EN ISO 20345 is rated for 200 joules of impact and 15 kN of compression. The sandal design provides ventilation and class S1 still requires a closed heel area that absorbs energy. This version is width 10 from the ATLAS multi-width system.
What the shoe delivers
- The charge leaves through the shoe, not through the component. Measured by the person shoe floor method of DIN EN 61340-5-1 the resistance stays below 100 MOhm. The charge carried by the wearer drains away on the walk to the machine instead of discharging into the assembly. The lower limit of 100 kOhm from DGUV rule 112-191 is kept, so the limited protection against electric shock when working up to 230 V remains in place.
- Protection class S1 in plain words. S1 to EN ISO 20345 means a toe cap rated for 200 joules of impact and 15 kN of compression, a closed heel area with energy absorption and an antistatic build. Penetration resistance and water resistance are not part of it, so the shoe belongs in dry indoor areas.
- Toe cap plus reinforced toe protection. The anatomically shaped cap absorbs an impact of at least 200 joules and a compression load of at least 15 kN. The reinforced toe protection slows the wear at the tip of the shoe that kneeling work causes first.
- Cushioning built for an eight hour day. The MPU INNOFLEX System guides the forces from heel to toe along a natural line of force. The pressure relieving insole and the MPU midsole form a three part full surface cushioning made of heel damping, midfoot support and forefoot damping. That takes load off the back and the joints during long periods of standing.
- Foot climate held near 32 degrees. The mesh upper, the aktiv-X functional lining and the clima-stream concept keep the inside of the shoe close to the comfort temperature of 32 degrees Celsius. The aktiv-X lining, does not stain and resists abrasion.
- Width 10 from the multi-width system. Width 10 is the ATLAS standard width and is already cut wide and foot-friendly. Anyone needing more room across the ball of the foot can order the identical build in width 12, 13 or 14.
- Approved for insoles and orthopaedic modifications. The ERGO-MED models are suitable for orthopaedic insoles under DGUV rule 112-191. Articles marked blueline are additionally approved for certified orthopaedic modifications such as sole and heel elevation.

Areas of use
The shoe belongs in dry indoor areas: electronics manufacturing and PCB assembly, EPA zones to DIN EN 61340-5-1, test areas and laboratories, cleanroom ante-rooms, repair and service work, warehousing and order picking. As a sandal without penetration resistance it is meant for tidy floors, not for construction sites or wet areas.
Standards and conformity
Atlas lists the shoe as S1 with SRC slip resistance to EN ISO 20345, and the supplier datasheet adds the 2012 edition. As personal protective equipment it falls under risk category 2 of PPE Regulation (EU) 2016/425. The ESD suitability does not follow the footwear standard but DIN EN 61340-5-1 with the person shoe floor measuring method.
EN ISO 20345 defines an electrical resistance between 100 kOhm and 1000 MOhm for every safety shoe. ESD shoes narrow that window at the top to 100 MOhm and thereby protect the product during manufacturing.
