In electronics manufacturing the shoe decides whether an assembly reaches the machine intact. The alu-tec 735 XP keeps the electrical resistance to DIN EN 61340-5-1 below 100 MOhm and drains the wearer charge into the floor in a controlled way. At the same time it is a full S3S shoe to EN ISO 20345:2022 with an aluminium toe cap rated for 200 joules of impact and 15 kN of compression, metal-free penetration resistance and a water-repellent upper.

What the shoe delivers

  • The charge leaves through the shoe, not through the component. Measured by the person shoe floor method of DIN EN 61340-5-1, the electrical resistance stays below 100 MOhm. A wearer who picks up a charge on the way to the machine passes it to the floor through the sole instead of discharging it into the assembly. The lower limit of 100 kOhm from DGUV rule 112-191 is maintained, so the limited protection against dangerous electric shock when working up to 230 V is not lost.
  • Protection class S3S in plain words. S3 to EN ISO 20345 means a closed heel area that absorbs energy, an antistatic build, a water-repellent upper, penetration resistance and a cleated outsole. The appended S in S3S marks the non-metallic penetration resistance, tested with the 3 mm nail. The SR rating is the additional requirement of the 2022 edition and is tested on ceramic tile with detergent solution. The shoe is therefore not limited to the dry production hall.
  • Aluminium cap instead of steel. The anatomically shaped alu-tec toe cap withstands 200 joules of impact energy and 15 kN of compression, yet weighs noticeably less than a steel cap and shifts the centre of gravity towards the middle of the foot. That helps prevent tripping caused by imbalance. Aluminium behaves thermally neutral, so no cold bridge forms into the inside of the shoe.
  • Penetration resistance without metal. The XP insert is a high-tech textile containing aramid fibres rather than a steel midsole. It protects against nails and other sharp objects, stays extremely light and allows the natural torsion of the foot. The abrasion-resistant MPU toe protector additionally takes the wear that kneeling work causes first at the tip of the shoe.
  • Two millimetres of leather against the working day. The upper is full-grain cowhide of roughly 2 mm thickness that stays waterproof for hours, remains breathable and holds its shape. Inside, the aktiv-X functional lining regulates moisture, does not stain and resists abrasion.
  • Cushioning built for an eight hour day. The MPU INNOFLEX System guides the forces along the INNOFLEX LINE from heel to toe. The CLOUDZONE in the heel absorbs the impact forces and the large MPU tread areas return the energy to the next step. On top of that comes the MPU REBOUND SYSTEM of pressure-relieving insole, damping and dynamics.
  • Width 12 for the broad foot. This version comes from the ATLAS multi-width system and is cut extra wide compared with standard width 10. Equipment, sole and protection level are identical, only the last differs. That removes the usual workaround of ordering one size up, which ends up too long at the toe and still too tight across the ball.

Areas of use

Electronics manufacturing and PCB assembly, EPA zones to DIN EN 61340-5-1, test areas and laboratories, machine and plant construction, maintenance, warehousing and order picking. With S3S penetration resistance and a water-repellent upper the shoe also works where swarf, nails or moisture are present, not only in the dry production hall.

Standards and conformity

ATLAS lists the shoe as S3S with SR slip resistance to EN ISO 20345:2022. The appended S marks the non-metallic penetration resistance, tested with the 3 mm nail. As personal protective equipment it falls under risk category 2 of PPE Regulation (EU) 2016/425. ESD suitability is not a requirement of the footwear standard but follows DIN EN 61340-5-1.

EN ISO 20345 requires an electrical resistance between 100 kOhm and 1000 MOhm for every safety shoe. ESD shoes narrow that window at the top to 100 MOhm and thereby protect the product during manufacturing. The shoe is also approved for orthopaedic insoles under DGUV rule 112-191, with the marking inside the shoe being decisive.
