A wide foot usually ends up in a shoe one size too long, which costs hold at the heel. The SL 9205 XP BOA in width 12 solves this through the last instead of the length. Electrically it remains a full ESD shoe because it keeps the through resistance of the person, shoe and floor chain below 100 MOhm measured to DIN EN 61340-5-1, the limit for an ESD protected area.

What sets this model apart

  • Protection class S1PS to EN ISO 20345:2022. That means a closed heel area, antistatic construction, energy absorbing heel and a non metallic penetration resistant insert, tested in the 2022 edition with the thin 3.0 mm nail and therefore more demanding than the earlier 4.5 mm test.
  • alu-tec aluminium toe cap, tested to 200 joules of impact energy and 15 kN of compression. Aluminium delivers that protection with noticeably less weight over the forefoot than steel.
  • XP metal free penetration resistance made from a high tech textile containing aramid fibres. It covers the full sole area, stays flexible and, unlike a steel midsole, does not conduct cold into the shoe.
  • BOA Fit System with a finely adjustable dial, a high strength lace and low friction guides. The fit can be readjusted in seconds while standing and with gloves on, and there are no loose ends to catch in machinery.
  • MPU INNOFLEX System with MPU REBOUND SYSTEM. The outsole guides the load along one continuous line from heel to toe and returns the absorbed energy into the next step, which is what counts across eight hours of standing and walking.

Areas of use

SMD placement and hand soldering, test and measurement stations, final assembly of modules, order picking and goods receipt inside an EPA, service work on sensitive electronics. The textile upper is designed for dry shop floor and clean room surfaces. Where water or oil stands on the floor permanently, choose an S3 model with a leather upper instead.

Standards and conformity

EN ISO 20345:2022 in the S1PS SR configuration. In this edition slip resistance SR is an additional requirement tested on tile with glycerine, while the basic requirement on tile with detergent is met in any case. ESD performance follows DIN EN 61340-5-1 with a person, shoe and floor through resistance below 100 MOhm. Antistatic safety shoes generally sit between 100 kOhm and 1,000 MOhm under EN ISO 20345, and the lower limit of 100 kOhm maintains limited protection against electric shock for work up to 230 V under DGUV 112-191.
