In electronics production the shoe decides whether the wearer charge drains in a controlled way or a component is damaged on the walk to the machine. The CL 400 keeps the resistance below 100 MOhm measured person plus shoe plus floor to DIN EN 61340-5-1 and is at the same time a class S2 safety low shoe to EN ISO 20345.

This version is built on the Atlas width 12. It runs extra wide and suits wearers for whom even the generously cut standard width 10 stays tight across the ball of the foot. The white CLEANLINE upper is water-repellent, bacteria-inhibiting and odour-inhibiting, which fits hygienically sensitive indoor areas.

Areas of use

The shoe belongs where ESD protection and hygiene meet: board and assembly production, test and measuring stations, cleanroom ante-areas, laboratories as well as picking and packing in medical technology. It is not made for wet outdoor work, where it lacks penetration resistance and a coarse tread.

Standards and conformity

The classification EN ISO 20345 S2 SRC covers everything S1 requires, namely a closed heel area, antistatic construction, 20 joules of energy absorption in the heel and a fuel-resistant outsole, and adds a water-repellent upper that resists water penetration and absorption. SRC covers the slip test on ceramic tile with detergent and on steel flooring with glycerine.

For its ESD models Atlas guarantees a resistance below 100 MOhm, that is below 10^8 Ohm, measured person plus shoe plus floor to DIN EN 61340-5-1. The footwear standard EN ISO 20345 contains no ESD test of its own and only requires antistatic shoes to stay between 10^5 and 10^9 Ohm. Anyone running an EPA to DIN EN 61340-5-1 therefore needs the tighter ESD figure rather than the antistatic range alone.

To EN ISO 20345 the toe cap withstands an impact of 200 joules and a static compression of 15 kN. The shoe is category II personal protective equipment under Regulation (EU) 2016/425 and Atlas publishes the EU declaration of conformity for the model.
