ESD shielding bags of the METAL IN type use a metallised composite film to shield electrostatic fields from the outside. The protection level meets ANSI/ESD S11.4 (shielding bags). The bags are available with a zip closure (resealable) or as open versions for impulse sealing; suppliers include SCS. The inner metallisation (METAL IN construction) provides field shielding even for highly sensitive MOSFET devices and integrated circuits.
METAL IN shielding bags are offered in a broad size range, from individual components to printed circuit boards. Selection depends on the component to be packaged (format, weight), the closure system (zip for storage and rework, heat-seal for dispatch), and the supplier (SCS or equivalent). For MSL protection, moisture barrier bags from the corresponding sub-category should also be considered.
Typical applications: Dispatch and transport of ICs, MOSFETs, microprocessors, and memory modules; interim storage after removal from original packaging (rework, repair); quality assurance and sample shipment; and individual EPA-compliant packaging per IEC 61340-5-1.
