Anti-static machine brush 200 mm for web material, magnetic holder and ground cord - Kinetronics SWG-200

A film web that has passed a few idler rollers and sliding guides carries several kilovolts. It attracts dust, sticks to the roller and throws the next station out of step. The Kinetronics StaticWisk SWG-200 is built into the machine to deal with exactly that, which is what separates it from a hand brush. Conductive synthetic fibres take the charge off a 200 mm working width and pass it to earth through the ground cord. In the manufacturer's test, polyethylene film at 1 m/s with an initial charge of about 20 kV, less than 5 percent of that charge remains behind a correctly mounted brush.

Application

Web material of every kind, meaning paper, plastic film and textiles, above all in packaging and in the graphic industry. The brush only works close to where it is mounted, so a long material path across several rollers needs several brushes. With a brush on one side of the web only, the charge on the opposite side induces roughly half the original value again after contact. Mounting on both sides is what brings the web reliably below 1 kV. The series runs from 100 mm to 625 mm and the model number states the brush length in millimetres. At 200 mm the SWG-200 covers the middle of that range. Custom lengths are available on request.

Mounting and care

The magnetic base holds the brush on any metal surface of the machine frame, and the two ball joints set the angle and the distance to the web. The ground cord has to be connected to earth, otherwise the collected charge has nowhere to go. The manufacturer points out that longer brushes may not be held securely by the supplied magnets alone. For long versions it recommends an additional carrier made of steel or aluminium, and mounting holes can be drilled in the upper part of the aluminium profile for that purpose. Correct installation is the operator's responsibility, and a risk assessment is advisable before installing long brushes.
