Anti-static machine-mount brush 400 mm for web material, ground cord - Kinetronics SWG-400

Web material picks up charge wherever it runs, on the unwind, over guide rollers and across sliding elements. The charge disrupts downstream processing, pulls dust onto the surface and can damage the stock itself. The StaticWisk SWG-400 is built into the machine, covers 400 mm of web width and drains the charge through its conductive fibres and the supplied ground cord. The manufacturer tested it on polyethylene film at 1 m/s with an initial charge of roughly 20 kV: correctly mounted brushes cut the outgoing charge to less than 5 percent.

Benefits

• Brushes on both sides bring the potential below 1 kV at the contact point. Mounted on one side only, the opposite side induces roughly half of the original charge again after contact.

Applications

The SWG-400 suits web material of every kind, paper, plastic films and textiles, mainly in packaging and the graphics industry. Mount it where the charge is generated or where it hurts, ahead of a printing unit, behind a guide roller or before the winder. The effect stays close to the mounting point, so a long material path over several rollers calls for several brushes. The range runs from 100 to 625 mm, and custom lengths are available on request.

Mounting and care

The 150 mm magnetic base holds the brush on a ferromagnetic surface, and the two preloaded ball joints with M6 thread set distance and angle to the web. The manufacturer points out that longer brushes may not be held safely by the supplied magnets alone and recommends an additional steel or aluminium support for long versions. Fixing holes can be drilled in the upper section of the aluminium extrusion. Proper installation is the operator's responsibility, and a risk assessment before installing long brushes is advisable. Connect the ground cord to a clean earth point. Factory spares: replacement magnet with articulated arm (art. 378.1) and EB-SWG-100 replacement brushes.
