Guide cylinder
Cylinder
Guide cylinders of the SGM series by EMC combine a pneumatic drive cylinder with an integrated plain-bearing guide that reliably absorbs lateral forces and tilting moments. The series is available in bore diameters from 12 to 40 mm with strokes from 10 to 200 mm, as confirmed by articles EMC SGM 12/10 through SGM 40/50. Repair kits (REP) are available per bore diameter. Unlike the ball-guided ELS series, the SGM uses plain bearings, which can offer advantages in dusty or contaminated environments.
| Criterion | SGM (plain bearing) | ELS (ball bearing) |
|---|---|---|
| Guide type | Plain bearing | Ball bearing |
| Friction | Higher, uniform | Lower |
| Dirt tolerance | Good | Medium |
| Bore sizes | 12-40 mm | 12-63 mm |
| Max. stroke | 200 mm (small bores) | 50 mm |
Typical applications: SGM guide cylinders are suited for guided linear movements in environments with higher dirt or dust exposure, for tool and sensor carriers in assembly automation, for clamping units with laterally loaded piston rods, and for lifting and lowering movements with longer strokes where plain bearings provide a robust and easy-to-maintain solution.
