Desoldering tips
Soldering tips
Weller desoldering tips cover two main series: WTA tips for WTA hand desoldering irons (tip sets, chisel bent 45°) and RTW tip pairs for two-tip desoldering systems. WTA types span widths from 0.5x0.5 mm (WTA 1S) to 12.5x0.5 mm (WTA 4); RTW pairs range from 0.2 mm (RTW 6NW, non-wettable) to 10x1.0 mm (RTW 10, RTW 10MS). The category also includes MIL-SPEC-qualified RTW-MS pairs and RTW 7NWMS (non-wettable, MIL-SPEC).
Tip pairs are supplied as a set and mounted together on the two-tip holder; the symmetrical approach allows capturing both-side solder joints without repositioning the tool. Non-wettable (NW) tips are designed for gripping components without solder transfer.
| Type | Series | Shape | Dimension |
|---|---|---|---|
| WTA 1S | WTA | Chisel bent 45° | 0.5x0.5 mm |
| WTA 1 | WTA | Chisel bent 45° | 1x0.5 mm |
| WTA 2 | WTA | Chisel bent 45° | 3x0.5 mm |
| WTA 3 | WTA | Chisel bent 45° | 6x0.5 mm |
| WTA 4 | WTA | Chisel bent 45° | 12.5x0.5 mm |
| WTA 11/12 | WTA | Chisel vertical | 1x0.5 / 3x0.5 mm |
| RTW 1-4 | RTW | Pair, chisel 45° | 0.4 / 0.7x0.4 / 3x1 / 6x1 mm |
| RTW 6NW | RTW | Pair, non-wettable | 0.2 mm |
| RTW 9/10/11 | RTW | Pair, chisel | 3 / 10 / 6 mm x1 mm |
WTA tips are suitable for WTA hand desoldering stations and are supplied as tip sets (bent 45° or vertical). RTW pairs are designed for two-tip desoldering systems on WXDP stations or equivalent tools. Several RTW types are also available as MIL-SPEC variants (RTW 2MS through RTW 11MS); the calibrated RTW 6NW 45° (chrome-plated, non-wettable) and RTW 7NWMS are specified for MIL-SPEC rework without solder transfer.
Typical applications: Desoldering SMD components with double-sided joints (SOIC, MELF, chip resistors), rework on THT connectors and relays, removal of IC packages from tight assembly areas, repair in aerospace electronics (MIL-SPEC RTW-MS variants), and hand desoldering at WTA stations in series production and laboratory environments.
